Dear Parishioners, As we gather on this third Sunday of Advent, Gaudete Sunday. The priests wear the rose-colored vestments as we “leap” for joy because the birthday of the Lord is near. Let us continue to prepare our minds and our hearts for the nativity of Jesus and with body, mind and soul celebrate the greatest miracle humankind has ever received. This miracle of Love inspires us to try to love others as God loves us. Any of us who have ever had surgery or been in a serious accident know full well the need for blood. Blood is a gift the healthy can freely give to those who may need it should an emergency arise. This Saturday, December 19th, we will host a blood drive in the parish center from 7:30-12:30 pm. Sign up at www.redcrossblood.org and use code: St. Luke’s. Walk-ins are welcome. I am so proud of our new ministry, Hands of St. Luke. A big thank you to our new members for the excellent presentation at masses last weekend. I am excited that as a parish, while doing our sometimes-mundane supermarket shopping, we will be performing an act of love by feeding families and supporting them in their time of need. Please encourage your children to take part by having them bring the food from the car into the narthex and helping them to understand that as a family, we are privileged and being privileged encourages the responsibility to strengthen the weak and vulnerable in their time of need. Congratulations to Deacon Ray and all the members of Operation Chillout! This weekend they celebrate 20 years of loving service to the Veterans. Deacon Ray will assist me on Monday, the 21st at the 9:00 am mass to give God thanks for the ability to give back to our heroes who by their very lives bring freedom to others. Deacon Ray has written a beautiful article on this ministry which we are proud to publish on December 26/27, the Feast of the Holy Family. On this feast day with hearts filled with pride, we celebrate our family reaching out in love to the heroes who now depend on our love and support in their time of need. God bless all who support this wonderful ministry and God bless America. Congratulations to Garrett Adrnt on completing his Eagle Scout project. I was proud to be part of the beautiful Court of Honor. Thank you, Garrett for designing our St. Luke signage. My deep appreciation to Kathy and Henry Troy who have been so involved in our parish for many years. They have served in the ministries of Men’s and Women’s Cornerstone, lectors, extraordinary ministers and Finance Council. Thank you also to their daughter Amy and her husband, Ed Noonan. They too have been very involved as altar server trainer, Women’s and Men’s cornerstone and ushering. Both families have made the decision to move; the Troys to Western Pennsylvania and the Noonans to Convent Station. I wish them well in their new lives. I promise to stay close to them and appreciate the love and care they have given to our parish for many years. May God guide them and give them much joy in their new lives. Fr. Owen
