Dear Parishioners, Last Sunday, Johnny Coleman was honored to receive the Knights of Columbus Scholarship. Johnny has been a catechist here for many years and is a gifted young man. He follows in a long line of active Catholics. His mother was a catechist, his father an assistant catechist and his two sisters were catechists also. We are blessed to have so many families like the Colemans who give of their time and love of their faith to help educate our children. We wish Johnny God’s blessings as he prepares for his new life in college. Thanks for your patience as Vinnie is continuing to work on the sound system. He has ordered some new speakers and in the next couple of weeks, please God, we will hear a marked difference. As you know, Vinnie is a volunteer and I appreciate the many hours of good service that he gives to our parish. As I had mentioned, the projector for our visual ministry is broken and we are continuing to troubleshoot to find the cause of the problem. I am very conscious that our roof for 40 years is aging and needs attention. Because of the increase in tithing, we have been able to put $20,000 away and project that we will be able to do the same in the years to come so that we will have a cushion towards the replacement cost when the time comes. I welcome Matt Ashburn to speak at all the masses this weekend. He and some of his peers have begun a nonprofit, Reach Out run by kids for kids. They are holding their first fundraiser at Rock Spring Park on July 30 at 10 am. We wish them well in this fundraiser. Please see the bulletin for more information. On Monday, July 18th some of our youth under the supervision of Dan and Mary Furnald, will be involved in a Catholic work camp to help those in need in the Paterson area. I am very proud of these young people who will join their contemporaries from St. Lawrence in Chester and bring the love of Christ to the working poor. I have invited our young people to tell you their story upon their return. During this week, we keep them in our prayers and know that they will make a difference to those in need. It will be fun for them also to meet young people from different areas and gather for Mass, prayer, and reflection at the end of their working day. Thanks to Mary and Dan who are chairing this wonderful event. Enjoy these lazy days of summer!
