Dear Parishioners, As we gather this weekend, Fr. Hubert and I are privileged to offer mass intentions for all of our grandparents, those who are living and those who are deceased. The role of grandparents is particularly beautiful in that the grandparent nurtures the grandchild and unless because of circumstances when they have to parent, they generally hand back their beloved without any great need to discipline. Grandparents who are devout are a true inspiration to their children, I will always remember learning from my grandmother, Margaret Murphy, my love of the Stations of the Cross and the importance of prayer and family. My granny died when I was 21 but her life lessons will be with me always. God bless all of our grandparents who are living an active Catholic life and passing on of our faith to their grandchildren and for our grandparents who are not active, we ask God to help them so that they will return to the beauty of their faith and role-model their faith for their grandchildren. I am thrilled to welcome our CCD parents and children back for our information session and to joyfully celebrate Holy Mass together this Sunday. I am also happy to welcome our 9th graders for their first academic session. I am happy to announce the expansion of our Eucharistic Outreach Program to the newly formed, TLC Ministry, Trusting Listening Connecting. St. Luke’s TLC Ministry is an inclusive ministry which provides Spiritual, Emotional and Physical support services to assist families in our Parish and beyond. The first visit by the team could be a Blessing, Eucharistic Service or anointing led by me, followed by a Needs Assessment by a Registered Nurse and a Social Worker. Once needs and possible outcomes are defined, the family and the TLC Team would create a plan to help address those needs. Some of the supports and services which could be provided are: ¨Holy Eucharist visits ¨Connecting and advocating with community resources ¨Companionship ¨Accompanying to doctor visits ¨Recreational outings ¨Assistance with grocery shopping, meals, light housekeeping and/or laundry ¨Personal Care All visits and interactions would be managed with respect, dignity, and confidentiality, and with Catholic Spiritual reverence. We are excited to begin this ministry and we will be taking applications for volunteers who would like to share their time and talents. If interested in joining our new ministry, please contact Marie or Jeanne. Additionally, if you know a family or an elderly person living alone, or anyone in need of TLC support, please contact us so that we can reach out to them or have them reach out to us, or, come serve with us as the Heart and Hands of Christ our Lord. We look forward to hearing from you, our parishioners and families who may need help. Currently, members of our TLC outreach Team are Fr. Owen, Jeanne Hahn, retired LCSW, Marie Peppas, RN, and John Hennessey, Eucharistic Minister. For more information, please contact Marie Peppas at [email protected] Happy Grandparents Day!
