On Sunday November 26
th, the church began the Season of Advent.
Advent is not the same as Christmas. Advent is a time to praise God for the great gift of his Son, Jesus. It is a time to think how ready we are to receive Jesus whenever he comes to us: in those who are in need: in the Eucharist at Mass; and when we welcome friends and family to our home.. Advent is a time to prepare our hearts to celebrate the birthday of the Messiah.
There are four weeks in Advent. Now is a good time to talk with your child about how important it is to prepare our hearts to receive Jesus. Before you begin decorating and shopping, hosting and going to parties, talk with your child about the things you and our family can do to observe the weeks of Advent. One way is to begin a new tradition to mark the days of Advent and to share the light of Christ with others. . Begin a reverse Advent Calendar – each day add a food or non-food item to a box and on Christmas Eve donate the contents to a local food bank.
